VCUArt Qatar goes to Bayat

Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) is a Qatari-based non-profit organisation that provides access to primary and secondary education to children affected by crisis across Asia.

It was in response to a May 2006 earthquake that hit the Klaten District, that ROTA supported the construction of a modern vocational school in the village of Bayat in collaboration with the Titian Foundation. This intervention furthered the development of education in Bayat and the surrounding villages and benefited over 1000 students, as well as educators with on-going teacher training initiatives.

VCUArt Qatar student volunteers, supervised by the VCUArt faculties, were conducting peer-to-peer workshops over five days. The topics were covering art and design subjects such as training in Photoshop, fashion design, pattern-making, sewing, and jewellery.

In the jewellery class we were using only natural materials, like flowers and spices together paper and rubber tires that were easy and free to get.
