The Hunt: Islamic Art and Princely Pleasures
The Hunt exhibition at the Museum Od Islamic art in Doha - 16 September 2015 9 January 2016 - focuses on a major part of elite life in the Islamic world, from earliest times until the present day, in order to open a window onto the lives of princes, sultans and caliphs.
The overarching idea is to use hunting (with diversions into fighting, food and polo) as a means of exploring the ‘princely cycle’ and how notions of kingship were formulated, expressed and depicted in the Middle East and beyond. This exhibition will fit into the aims of the Qatar-Turkey Year of Culture 2015 by including key loans from Turkish institutions, thereby highlighting commonalities of culture between both countries, both historically and in the present day.
