Notebook from the Middle East
Battoulah (Arabic: البطولة, romanized: al-baṭṭūlah) is a metallic-looking mask traditionally worn by Muslim Arab women in Arab states of the Persian Gulf, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar, as well as in southern Iran.
The origin of the battoulah is unknown, but it is thought to have entered the Eastern Arabian Peninsula from Gujarat in late 18th century.
The color can change from dark brown to bright gold. The tradition is less popular with the newer generations, but is still followed by women in their 50s and older, and by those living in rural areas.
A niqāb or niqaab (/nɪˈkɑːb/; Arabic: نِقاب niqāb, "[face] veil"), also called a ruband, is a garment of clothing that covers the face, worn by some Muslim women as a part of a particular interpretation of hijab (modest dress).
In this case Battoulah and niqāb are tiny notebooks. A little memory from this part of the world.
