Marvellous Creatures: Animal Fables in Islamic Art
This exhibition at the Museum Of Islamic art in Doha - 4 March 2015 - 20 August 2015 - focuses on the real and mythical animals that feature in the legends, tales and fables of the Islamic world, divided into the natural quadrants of earth, air, fire and water. These beasts serve as the introductions and bridges for the stories in which they feature – including well-known and beloved classics like the Shahnameh, Kalila wa Dimna, and Alf Layla wa-Layla (better known in English as 1001 Nights). These animals serve as guides to, and through, the narrative content of these tales.
The exhibition was targeting a young audience, schools, a families the kids. The merchandise was designed mainly for the little ones, a playful memory of the beauty shown in the galleries.
